Book Review: Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk

Fight Club is not for romantic souls like me, but then again, it’s one of my favourite books, so I guess Fight Club is for everybody after all. The philosophy of this book is so different and radical that the whole time while I was reading it I was wodering if Tyler was genious or simply crazy. If you want to change the world and you’re willing to go that far to achieve it, are you really up for anarchy or is it just another way to show how stupid people have become in their little attempts to follow an example, to have a god (or to create one)? - this was onether question that troubled my mind while reading. But despite all the things that seemed to go too far, despite having the feeling that I was the kind of person Tyler Durden would target, despite feeling I shouldn’t enjoy it so much, this book became, in a way, my sweet escape from everything that surrounded me. Somebody pissed me off? I read Fight Club. I couldn’t sleep? I read Fight Club. Something went wrong? I read Fight Club. I don’t think that’s the original intention of the book, but this is what it became to me - the ultimate zen guide. It’s not about Tyler’s great plans of changing the world - it’s about not giving shit and doind whatever I felt like doing. No greater purpose. No bigger picture. Just me and my little mediocre life. And while reading Fight Club that seemed more than fine and enough for me.
