Movie Review: Beautiful Creatures (2013)

Having read the first two books from the Beautiful Creatures Saga and being quite disappointed by them I did not have too high expectations of this movie, and I was so pleasantly surprised.
I loved the script and the screenplay. The movie was not as dramatic and things in it were not as hard as they were in the book; on the contrary, everything was very clear, it made a lot of sense, the script was very thoughtful and descriptive, so never did I feel lost in the story, but in the same time it was humorous and easy to follow. The directing could not have been better! It was perhaps that brilliant element that got me so excited about this movie.

Another good point was how realistic everything seemed, and the fantasy elements were not in your face - they were very subtle and very justified. The liturature references were blended in the story without being the central point of it, and I loved how so many different quotes were used, but still there was a lot of original thought and ideas. It was philosophical without being too philosophical. It was romantic without being too romantic. It was fantasy wthout being too fantasy. This kind of balance is so hard to achieve that I just admire Richard LaGravenese for his work on this film.
The only thing that perhaps was a bit off were the visual effects, but I can live with it because overall we have a wondeful movie at hand. I love it!
