Even though lately I’ve had the luck to stumble upon good reads mostly, I feel that I should say that, in a way, this is one of the best books I’ve ever read.
It’s very descriptive… Somehow in the beginning it felt even too descriptive with all that Mississippi heat, and it seemed as if everything was moving so slowly… and I honestly didn’t know what to expect from the story. I thought it was more… rural.
But in fact, this book turned out to be a trully marvelous piece! The change in the narrative’s view point increased the pace just enough to keep the attention on the story; each character was well-developed and felt full-blooded. At some points I caught myself feeling bad or worried about the heroines - that’s how vivid the story was! What really made a significant impression on me was how every time something intense or bad or important was about to happen the pace slowed down a bit, so that the tension increases, and then BAM! You read the words, and you can basically feel them crawl under your skin and spread within your entire body until you feel them with every cell within you. Everytime something so stunning happened I could feel chills going down my back and my heart skipping a beat. It felt so real, as if it was happening to people I personally knew… or even more, as if it was happening to me myself!
Amazing!
